Anna’s Secret Recipe

Whether you are looking to live a happy and healthy life or you want to have a successful career, it all starts with taking care of yourself. Your mindset, lifestyle, diet, etc., all affect how you feel on a daily basis.

I’m Anna, the salon owner of the beautiful Lola Hair Studio, in Cambridge, MA. I am always on the go so it is important for me to maintain a healthy lifestyle so I feel and do my best. Today, I am going to talk about all things lifestyle, diet, mindset, and exercise, and how my routine helps me live a successful and happy life. Don’t forget to try out my amazing avocado toast recipe at the end of this blog.

First, we’re going to get into the diet:

Well-balanced meals are key to feeling energized and having a successful day. Carbohydrates, protein, veggies, and healthy fats, among other things, are all necessities to have in your diet.

It’s very important to have healthy fats in your diet, they don’t just support cell function and give your body energy, they have nutrients to help promote hair growth! Some foods that have good healthy fats are salmon, avocado, fatty fish, and eggs. Making sure to take vitamins is not only super important to feel great, but it will make your hair feel great too! For your hair, I recommend biotin, B vitamins, vitamin A, vitamin D, iron, and zinc. Unfortunately, these vitamins are not found in my favorite food, french fries :(. For biotin I recommend eggs and for B vitamins and vitamin A, I recommend berries.

A tip that I have to not only save time but to make sure I get well-balanced meals throughout my week, is to prepare meals. I usually take about an hour on a Sunday or Monday to prepare breakfast and lunch for the week. Some of my favorites are overnight oats, turkey chili, chicken lettuce wraps, and in the summertime, gazpacho.

Mindset is also so important to live a happy and successful life! I really focus on my mindset because it allows me to do my best and show up for my amazing group and stylists, team members, and of course, the best clients ever! I prefer to do these things before work, so when I am in the salon, I can be the best for my clients and girls. Here are some of the daily routines that help me improve my mindset:

Different things work better for me at different times. Sometimes, I meditate to get in the right mindset before a busy day at the salon. But one of my favorites is journaling. It allows me to release pent-up energy and get all of my thoughts out. I can type really fast so I like to journal on my computer. I recommend the app Penzu. I also highly recommend practicing gratitude. This helps me to reduce stress and it grounds me. When I am in the car, I also enjoy listening to mindset podcasts. I have a set of gratitude cards that I gave to all the girls at Lola and I flip a card every morning to help remind me of what I’m grateful for.

Exercise is very important to me to help me get out of my head and stay healthy. I always love a strength training session with heavy weights and I also have a trainer that I see weekly. As many of you know, I’m also a Peloton lover (Who isn’t?). The instructors are basically my friends ;). Another one of my favorites is hot yoga and cardio. I love to get outside and do some tempo running and stairs and often and the other stylists at Lola get together to run stairs.

A huge part of self-care for me is taking vacations, and I always encourage the Lola girls to take their vacations. Whether it is a vacation near or far from home, it’s important to get away. It’s important to spend time with family and friends, and refresh yourself. It can be hard to pull away from work, but once you do, you will come back feeling like a whole new person!

I make sure to have a “work hat” and a “home hat”. This way, when I am at home, I can focus on my home life like my husband and I are doing that weekend, what I am eating for dinner, etc., and I don’t have to be stressed about other things. Then when I am in the salon, I want to be fully devoted to my amazing clients and team, so when I am in the salon I focus just on my work.

Maintaining yourself is just like maintaining a car, relationship, or home. My goal is to inspire people, and in order to do that, I need to maintain myself to be the best for others. I aim to see the world in bright light and hope the world will see me in bright light. Taking these steps each day allows me to feel my best and be my best.

Anna’s Avocado Toast

Ingredients:
  • Hard-Boiled Egg
  • Ezekiel bread
  • Ripe Avocado
  • Tomato
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Cayenne Pepper
Steps:
  1. Peel and smash your avocado.

  2. Add in your boiled egg and mix it together

  3. Add in a pinch of salt and pepper and mix together

  4. Slice your tomato

  5. Toast your bread

  6. Put the tomato on your toast and sprinkle a little salt on top

  7. Spread your avocado and egg on your toast

  8. Sprinkle cayenne pepper on top

  9. Enjoy!
